So you’ve notice your skin feeling rather tight and itchy. But it also appears oily. So you assume that you have oily skin but on the other hand your skin is feeling rough and has no bounce to it, which this rough non bouncy symptom is a tell tale sign of dry skin. Now you’re probably feeling a bit confused and frustrated at this point particularly as oily feel comes and goes sporadically.
Well here’s the thing this is neither oily or dry skin type and Just to break this down to you without trying to confuse you- the dry and oily skin you’re experiencing is at the same is dehydrated skin.
Dehydrated skin is not a skin type, it’s a condition that all skin types can unfortunately experience. Unless you have normal skin.
Dehydrated skin is temporary and can be reversed.
This is often caused by:
The environment
-Hot Baths and/or Showers
-Aircon
-unbalanced diet
-harsh beauty products
The water loss from your skin which is also known as the lack of moisture is replaced by the over production over sebum. Although sebum is important to the health of your skin barrier your skin is trying to over compensate for the lost moisture by protecting it.
In order to rehydrate your skin you need to use skincare products that are water based to draw moisture back into your skin and seal it with oil based skincare to seal in the moisture.
Therefore add products that include humectants like Hyaluronic acid serum for a dewy bouncy look. Aloe Vera, Glycerin and Polyglutamic. Just to name a few.
Oh and don’t forget when it comes to choosing an SPF when your skin is dehydrated. You should use one that also has hydrating ingredients too and the moisturising ingredients for your dry skin.
So overall to get rid of your dehydrated skin, humectants are key to your skincare routine as they will add loss water back into your skin.
